Vasari, Giorgio
(30 jul. 1511, Arezzo–27 jun. 1574, Florencia).

Pintor, arquitecto y escritor italiano. Aunque fue un pintor prolífico dentro del estilo del manierismo, es más reconocido como arquitecto (diseñó el palacio de los Uffizi, en la actualidad la Galería de los Uffizi). Sin embargo, incluso su arquitectura se vió opacada por sus escritos. Su obra Vidas de los mejores arquitectos, pintores y escultores italianos (1550) ofrece biografías de los artistas del Renacimiento temprano y tardío. Su estilo es comprensible y su material está bien documentado, aunque cuando los datos escaseaban no dudaba en rellenar los vacíos. Desde su punto de vista, Giotto había revivido el arte de la verdadera representación después de su decadencia a principios de la Edad Media, y los artistas que siguieron condujeron progresivamente ese arte a la perfección, lograda por Miguel Ángel. La segunda edición de la obra (1568) ha probado ser una fuente de incalculable valor para los historiadores del arte.
